Legalizing e-scooters could pose a threat to road safety, MPA warns

The Mineral Products Association has responded to the Government's consultation on the 'Future of Mobility' with a strong call for e-scooters to be banned from shared roads, not legalized. Citing serious safety concerns that make micro-mobility devices such as e-scooters much more vulnerable than bicycles, the association strongly urged Government not to press ahead with their legalization.

‘Cash bridge’ remains at heart of MPA calls on Chancellor for more business support now and into recovery

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has written to the Chancellor of the Exchequer having published a policy paper setting out the impact of the Coronavirus on the sector proposing some key policy steps to help get the industry through the crisis and be ready to support the recovery. It also warns of an anticipated credit squeeze as the economy re-opens, a major risk for those that survive the current shutdown.

Demand for heavy side building materials declined before the impact of COVID-19 but the sector is ready, able and willing to supply safe sites

Construction market demand for heavy side building materials in Great Britain, including aggregates, asphalt, ready-mixed concrete and mortar, declined significantly at the start of 2020. The fall reflected a ‘double-whammy’ of flooding and adverse weather affecting work on site in February, and the early impact of the COVID-19 lockdown at the end of March. Combined, these two factors brought any early signs of market sales improvements recorded in the second half of last year to a halt.
