Spending Review: “Delivery On Promises and Plans Is Vital”

The Mineral Products Association (MPA) has cautiously welcomed the Chancellor’s announcements in the Spending Review but stressed that delivery is vital. The key announcements for MPA members included investment in roads, rail, and longer-term spending on bringing forward CCUS, nuclear and hydrogen all of which provide a pipeline of demand and support our industry’s transition to net zero. However, experience over recent years of ambitions not being met tempers our confidence in the plans announced today.

British Lime Association’s Sustainable Development Report Emphasises the Important Contribution of the UK Lime Sector in Challenging Times

The 2020 British Lime Association (BLA) Sustainable Development Report sets out the sector’s performance during 2019 but highlights that 2020 has been a year of significant change and we will not know the impact on performance until 2021 when data is available. BLA Members continued operations during the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, as lime is an essential product for the provision of safe drinking water and treatment of wastewater and for several important manufacturing industries, including steel and plastics that are used to produce goods critical to combating COVID-19. Lime is also used to clean emissions from waste incinerators, energy from waste plants and other large combustion plants.

MPA’s ‘Vision Zero’ Launched at Inaugural MPA & British Precast Health & Safety Leadership Conference

With the theme of ‘Look, Listen, Learn, Lead’, MPA & British Precast’s first virtual Health & Safety Leadership Conference took place on Wednesday 11 November, hosted by BBC Radio Presenter Sybil Ruscoe. The event launched MPA’s new ‘Vision Zero’, together with the associated values, strategies, targets and focussed on the leadership and behavioural change required to deliver them, drawing on the insights of leaders from within the industry and the workforce. Contributors also talked about what they had learnt, managing, and adapting to a Covid-19 environment.

MPA Continues to Support Industry to Stay COVID-19 Alert and Secure

With COVID-19 levels rising across the UK, the Mineral Products Association (MPA) recognises the importance of maintaining the health and safety disciplines that will be essential to keep everyone Covid secure and safe and healthy at work. To assist members with the on-going need to remind all employees of these disciplines, MPA has produced some additional posters to help reinforce the key messages. Developing on the theme used in MPA’s ‘10 Rules of Engagement’, the posters remind individuals to ‘Stay COVID-19 Alert’.
