BLAST-WAVE-ONLINE-RGB.jpgRegistration is now open for the BlastWAVE Conference 2026.

The MPA is supporting GEARS, Liverpool University and partners in order to develop new guidance for quarry blasting operations. Across the UK, there is a vacuum of guidance in England; Welsh guidance in MTAN1 conflicts with existing authoritative literature and the British Standard; Scotland’s PAN 50 dates back to 1996 and whilst it best reflects existing understanding and provides a sound platform of evidence, aspects are now dated.

Blastwave-Event-Listing-Image-(1).pngRecent sectoral meetings with LPA planners, operators, consultants, contractors and equipment manufacturers have indicated strong support for the studies and all indications to date are pointing to a need for a fresh look at the impacts of quarry blasting, building an up to date evidence base, updating guidance for planning conditions and improving engagement and information sharing with the public and thereby safeguarding future extraction. Whilst the work continues, the findings of the research to date are to be presented at Liverpool University in January 2026, with a view to further developing the peer reviewed research and studies.

This event looks to:

  • Address the challenges and recent misconceptions surrounding the impacts of quarry blasting and the monitoring of those impacts, which may inadvertently threaten the future of the industry.
  • It will be of interest to all who are involved in or interface with the quarrying industry including operators, contractors, consultants, planning authorities and Central Government policy makers.

Sponsorship opportunities are available for this event, with further opportunities available to support continued research, to establish the necessary robust evidence base and technical understanding to develop informed guidance and policies.

Spaces are limited, as such early booking is advisable to avoid disappointment. Register now to join us for insightful discussions.
