MPA ‘Safer by Sharing’ webinars are available to all, free of charge and accredited for CPD. The ‘Safer by Sharing’ sessions help to facilitate the transfer of health and safety knowledge and skills throughout the MPA membership.
Lisa Saunders, Chair of the MPA Mental Health & Wellbeing Working Group and Dawn Collins, Health, Safety, Security and Resilience Trainer and Consultant, will be presenting three MPA webinars on aspects of mental health.
Mental Health - Making the Link with Safety
The Fatal 6 highlight the high consequence hazards in the mineral products sector. Evidence indicates that stress and mental ill health significantly increases the risk of absenteeism, presenteeism, near misses and accidents. You are 3 times more likely to come across a team member contemplating ending their life than having a heart attack.
Session 1 - The Link between Employee Mental Health and Safety - Friday 18th October - 10am – 11.15am
Does poor employee mental health compromise safety and how can this be mitigated?
In this session, we will explore how poor mental health can impact an employee at work, the team and safety. We seek to raise awareness of the need for proactive management and early intervention.
Session 2 - Organisational Stress Risk Assessment - Friday 15th November - 10am – 11.15am
What is a workplace stress risk assessment and what is the legal obligation on employers?
Stress is the main trigger for anxiety disorders in the UK. Stress Risk Assessment is a legal requirement in our workplace environments. Employers have a moral, corporate and legal duty of care to ensure both physical safety and mental wellbeing. In this session, we will look at organisational stress risk assessment, giving guidance on how to effectively conduct the assessment process and action planning.
Session 3 - Coping With Life - Tuesday 10th December - 10am – 11.15am
When life pressures become too much: suicidal thoughts and how to have conversations around this topic in the workplace.
In this session, we will talk about how life pressures can become too much, resulting in suicidal thoughts and people taking their lives. We will examine suicide in the context of our sector, the risk factors and what organisations can do to equip their staff with the skills needed to spot the signs and have difficult conversations.
